Why Jenna made the switch to Occupational Therapy…

When people learn that I used to spend my days installing large artwork installations in major retail stores and creating advertising campaigns, they’re often surprised to hear that I now work as an occupational therapist. While my previous career was creative and dynamic, transitioning to occupational therapy has been the most rewarding decision I’ve ever made.

Now, every day is different, filled with variety and purpose. I get to work with an amazing, supportive team and, most importantly, help clients achieve their personal goals. One day, I might be assisting someone in developing their cooking skills so they can live independently, and the next, I might be helping a client overcome barriers to accessing the beach for the first time in years.

It may sound like a cliché, but I truly love witnessing people accomplish something meaningful to them. The best part of occupational therapy is its holistic approach—recognizing that everyone is unique, with different needs, goals, and strengths. Seeing a client achieve their goals is incredibly special and rewarding. This is why I believe OT is the best profession.

My Top 5 Reasons Why I Love OT:

  • We support people in all aspects of life—from getting dressed and preparing meals to engaging in meaningful recreational activities, accessing the community, or using assistive technology to increase independence.

  • Every client is different, which means every day is different.

  • We take a holistic approach, considering all factors that may support or create barriers to achieving goals.

  • OTs don’t tell people what to do—instead, we provide support and strategies to help them reach their meaningful goals.

  • The moment a client achieves something that truly matters to them—the smile on their face makes it all worth it.

If you think occupational therapy could benefit you or a loved one, feel free to reach out. We’d love to help!

Warmest,

Jenna
